Yossi Wachtel, owner of Monkey Wrench Plumbing, Heating, Air & Electric with a few locations in and around the Los Angeles area, discovered the trades when he founded his home services business in 2008. At the time, his entrepreneurial endeavor fueled his combined passions for tinkering, business ownership, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

Today, Yossi sets the tone and the vision of where his company is headed, and he says he allows the most incredible people – his team – to help him get there. Lead by Learning, Sharing, and Following a Proven Process

Prior to joining Nexstar, Yossi noted, he didn’t truly understand the business side of a plumbing company. “When you join Nexstar, you’re forced to really look at things – you have to learn about business.”

And, while it could be uncomfortable at times, Yossi was determined to learn the ins and outs of running a successful home services business.

I needed to do it. And now I feel incredibly confident knowing our numbers, and confident knowing that if I have questions, I can reach out to other Nexstar members or my coaches.

“I had heard this years ago from Mary Jean Anderson of Anderson Plumbing,” Yossi recalled. “She said, ‘I’m not the smartest person in the room; I just follow the process.’ And it stuck with me, that here’s a company that in my mind back then was tremendous, and she’s actually following the process. And I said, I’m just going to engage with Nexstar and do what I’m supposed to do because you’ve got to put your faith somewhere. And so, I’m choosing to put my faith into a proven success.”

Scaling His Legacy Home Services Business and Paying it Forward

Recently, Yossi and his welcoming team hosted a Nexstar Regional Meeting, a free event for members within a nearby geographic area to gather informally and learn, share insights, and swap stories. As it turned out, the Monkey Wrench Regional had the highest turnout ever for a California meeting!

“Over the past nine-and-a-half years, I’ve gone to other shops and learned from other members,” Yossi noted. “So, I was so happy to be able to give something back and host.”

And his fellow Nexstar members were excited to chat with Yossi and each other. When it was time to break into groups to discuss everyone’s business challenges, the room filled up with the buzz of owners eager to share their experiences.

“For me, this really has been the best part of Nexstar,” Yossi says. “The classes are great; the coaching is great; there’s a lot of amazing things that Nexstar has to offer. For me, though, when I go into a shop and I can actually see stuff that’s going on and I can physically walk into their call center and talk to their call center manager… when I can meet other members at a Regional and connect with them and make friends and learn about what they’re doing in their business – this is the greatest part of Nexstar. The sharing and the caring aspect are really what these Regionals are about. It’s incredibly powerful to be able to walk into someone’s shop and learn from somebody else with their shop completely open. It’s just a mind-boggling concept.”
