Texas Contractor Follows Proven Processes to Business Success

When Brad Bacon started his Rockwall, Texas business in 2011, he needed a name for it. His last name turned out to be a perfect fit, and so Bacon Plumbing Heating Air & Electric was born. The company slogan? Why, it’s “Everyone Loves Bacon”, of course!

Now, 13 years later, with around 130 trucks and a 2024 company revenue projecting at $40 million, the slogan has proved itself – everyone really does love Bacon. Brad’s put in plenty of hard work, and he also credits Nexstar Network, which he joined in 2018, with his company’s explosive growth.

Here Brad Bacon, Owner and CEO of Bacon Plumbing, Heating, Air and Electric, shares how he leads from the heart. His human-centric approach paired with a strong work ethic has fueled his business forward to include 150 employees, 130 service trucks, and counting.

With A Trusted Support System in Place, Things at Bacon Heat Up

“When I joined Nexstar, I just immersed myself into all the trainings they had to offer,” Brad explains. “In my mind, it was much like college – I had to go to these classes and absorb the information, and I had to come back to my business and implement what I learned. And so I did that, and that’s what led me to where I’m at today.”

“Before I joined Nexstar, it was like being on an island,” he continues. “I feel like I was just out there making smoke signals, asking for help, just hoping somebody sees me and saves me. I thought there was a secret sauce to all this; I was lost, trying to figure it out. Immediately after joining Nexstar, I had the support I’d been looking for. I’ve been through almost every major training Nexstar offers; I’ve also been to several of them multiple times. Nexstar was really just a massive support system for me. It does take energy and effort on my part to be able to learn and implement, but Bacon wouldn’t be where it is now without Nexstar.”

Brad Bacon founded his own home services company in 2011 so he could spend more time with family. Together with his wife Lori and sons Brennan and Trevor – they are building their legacy and scaling their business in the Dallas/Ft. Worth community.

Building The Family Legacy Together

Bacon Plumbing Heating Air & Electric is a family affair; Brad’s wife and children work at the company with him. The whole family is involved with building their legacy business; Trevor and Brennan Bacon hope to one day buy the company from Brad.

“I don’t think that I would care for any other company more than I care for Bacon,” Trevor says. “That care inside is really what puts a flame under me to work harder every day to do what’s best for the business. I think that’s a big separation between a family business and a big corporate chain – we care for our customers, we care for our employees, we care for each other, and it’s our name on the building.”

Brennan remembers what it was like prior to the company’s Nexstar membership.

“Before Nexstar, it was like a train without tracks,” he says. “We knew we needed to take care of our employees and customers; however, we didn’t know how to budget things, how to network with other companies, how to grow the company and to grow it without derailing the train. Nexstar really helps the company. They offer so many different types of trainings – leadership, sales, dispatch, call center… every little bit and piece inside a company. Nexstar’s made a huge impact on us being organized and maintaining our growth without outrunning ourselves.”

Don’t Forget: Put In the Reps

But Nexstar isn’t a silver bullet. The real secret to success is putting in the work.

You can sign up for anything; you can buy all the technology; you can join any best-practice company you want, but if you’re not willing to rebuild yourself and spend the time to learn and implement, you’re just spending money for no results,
~Brad says.

“Nexstar is excellent, but it doesn’t matter how good Nexstar is if you’re not willing to do the work. If you don’t implement what you’re learning, you’re just not going to grow the way you could, and I would assume that most people had the intent to grow when they signed up for Nexstar. You want to develop good processes? You want to be successful? Well, that’s it. It’s engaging and implementing. The most taxing thing I do is show up and put the effort in, every day.”
